I've made a few attempts and gained a few followers here and there. I always ended up pulling the blogs down after a while, mostly due to fear of discovery. I'm a critical care nurse and I put up a lot of real life situations on my blog. I never put up patient identifiers out of respect for privacy (and the law, of course), but I always worried that during an Internet witch hunt my employer would somehow find out and that would be the end of my career. So, I stopped.
I missed it. During times of great stress, blogging is a great way to blow off steam. So...along comes Nerd Girl Central, and a new venue is born.
I think the most important thing to do first is to get to know you...er...me, so here's a little list of fun facts about me:
I'm a gaming/techno/sci-fi/gadget geek. I guess you could say I'm an equal opportunity geek.
I'd rather play Xbox 360 than shop.
I love Bioshock because it's loosely based on the philosophy of Ayn Rand.
I used to play AD&D for days at a time and practically flunked out of my first year of college because I did that instead of going to class.
I dissect movies and TV and it's only gotten worse since I became a nurse because now I say things like, "Amiodarone does NOT stop your heart! If it did I'd kill 10 patients a week!"
I can quote obscure geek films. No smoking in the skull cave!
I love guys with glasses, especially if they have dark spiky hair and wear the same glasses as Ten does in Doctor Who. Wiggle your eyebrows over those rims and I'm yours. Alas, my husband does not wear glasses. He is a famous glass artist, though, so I'll cut him some slack because he's got other cool things going on.
ComicCons are a hoot, especially when you run into old friends (James Marsters, I'm looking at you) and they actually remember you.
On that note, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the best TV show ever. EVER.
I love horror movies. Yes, even torture porn. As far as I'm concerned, a new Saw movie could come out every year and I'd go see it.
I currently carry an iPhone, a Droid, a pager (damn job), a Nookcolor, and a laptop. Although I don't have gadget overload just yet, I think I might be getting a tumor on my hip.
I really, really want a sonic screwdriver pen. Ten's, not Eleven's. But they're all sold out!
I adore the Indiana Jones series, but I wish I could unsee Crystal Skull. It was so bad that it actually ruined the others for me.
If it were possible to dress in Steampunk fashion and not get reprimanded at work, I totally would.
That's me. The list could go on for ages, but this is just a "Hi, how do you do?" so I'll stop before it gets ridiculous. So, what about you? I'll just kick back with a glass of Riesling and some chips and salsa and hope to hear from you.
